A WOMAN’S BODY LANGUAGE: ‘Hands off, he’s mine!’

When U.S supercop Bill Bratton and wife Rikki were pictured in The Mail on Sunday last week, her elegantly manicured fingers were lightly – but oh so firmly – resting upon her handsome husband’s torso.

And a little research reveals that in almost every photograph taken of the couple, TV personality Rikki has adopted a similar pose.

Bill is the charismatic policeman credited with reversing America’s crime epidemic – and the fact that Rikki is his fourth wife is perhaps a clue to the significance of her sub-conscious hand signals.

Because body-language expert Judi James says the pose is classically adopted by women everywhere to send a hands-off gesture to any rivals who may be interested in their man.

‘This is a possessive barrier gesture,’ explains James. ‘Although it is a sign of affection, principally it is a signal to other females, who may be potential rivals.

‘Basically, what the woman is communicating to others is, “I’ve got him – hands off.” ’

It’s a tactic that doesn’t work with all men, warns James. So The Mail on Sunday set about finding the stars who use the hands-off hand signal to most effect .  .  . with surprising results.

In the acting and modelling profession, where outward appearance is important, quite a few people with ’clubbed thumbs’ have become successful. Next to Megan Fox (see previous post) being the most well-known example there is a considerable list of models & actresses who have the same thumb abnormality.

Maybe, some might now think that a toe tumb can be ‘sexy’, but the truth is that brachydactyly type d is a common trait in the general population - though the prevalence varies among populations around the world. According the World of Clubbed Thumbs the statistics are: 0.1% of blacks, 0.4% of whites, 1.6% of Jews and 3% of Arabs.

Thumbs Up for Megan Fox: Her Thumb got Photoshopped again in Armani Jeans & Underwear Campaign!

Funny Armani commercial: ‘The tip’ (2010) - feat. Megan Fox.

Remember the funny story about actress Megan Fox thumbs being photoshopped in the 2010 Motorola Superbowl commercial? Well,  in the 2010 Armani jeans & underwear commercials the producers made likewise actions on her thumbs!

For those who are not yet familiar with the shape of Megan Fox’s thumb, the recent picture below displays an impression of her ‘clubbed thumb’ which looks like a ‘toe thumb’ (a.k.a. brachydactyly type d, or BDD).

Now, let’s take a look at some impression from Megan’s 2010 Armani jeans & underwear ad campaign. Notice anything strange about her thumbs in the first two pictures below? – Probably not.

But what is your impression of the photos below? Notice anything strange about her thumb? Yes, yes, yes! The Armani people definitely took the time to photoshop her thumb, because now it suddenly appears to be a normal ‘slender’ thumb with a longer fingernail – but that is not how Megan’s thumbs look like at all! 

Obviously, the Armani people replaced it altogether. What’s wrong with you, people? Why not photoshop her tattoos, but only Megan’s thumbs… bad taste?

By the way, Megan Fox’s thumb story does not stand on it’s own. Because today Photoshopping is applied to nearly every photo of any model. BODY DYSMORPHOBIA OR MARKETING TRICK? – Madonna desperately seeking new hands!

Madonna has started wearing gloves again, an example of body dysmorphobia or another marketing trick?

Earlier this week the Daily Mirror revealed: “Madonna hates the appearance of her hands and says they are too ‘old lady. She’s managed to work wonders with her face over the past few years thanks to Dr. Frederic Brandt, but hands have always been the big age giveaway,” a source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper.
The 51 year-old is reportedly said to be being treated by Dr Fredric Brandt in an effort to give her hands a more youthful appearance.

 The pop star has recently been seen wearing hand gloves on two separate occasions and is said to have kept her hands in her pockets at a charity event. Has she started developing body dysmorphobia?

Hard to say because the aging of her hands has been noticed in the media since 2007. Madonna is known for spending about a half million pounds every year to look younger, and earlier this year a report was published on the ‘retouch’ of her hands. But likewise reports had occured in the media which clearly illustrate that just like Michael Jackson … Madonna is not able to turn back time.

But maybe there is another reason why Madonna has started wearing gloves. For, she’s not the only one: her daughter Lourdes has started wearing ‘gloves without fingers’ as well.

Actually, as a matter of fact, Lourdes has recently made her first steps in becoming a fashion queen! Not only will the singer’s daughter get her own designs out in stores this August with the Material Girl Collection – including a hand glove (!),  but she’s also turning fashion blogger to promote it.

So what do you think? Is Madonna wearing gloves because she simply likes them to wear – possibly because she is suffering on a body dysmorphic disorder? Or … has Madonna started wearing gloves again as a marketing trick – for promoting her daughter’s efforts?

Megan Fox has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder – what are the associated hand characteristics?

Earlier this month actress Megan Fox claimed to have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Psychodiagnostic Chirology describes some typical hand characteristics that have been associated with this disorder. Do Megan’s hands confirm that she has OCD? In the in the June 2010 issue of Allure magazine (not yet published) Megan Fox describes that she suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and has problems with everyday scenarios. Megan explained, “This is a sickness, I have an illness. Every time someone uses a bathroom and they flush, all the bacteria is shot into the air.” Ms. Fox also brings her own silverware wherever she goes. “Putting my mouth where a million other mouths have been, just knowing all the bacteria that you carry in your mouth? Ucch!” Fox also claimed that she can cope without food, Megan also insisted she wouldn’t mind going for lengthy periods of time without any human contact as she prefers her own company. She said: “I could go days, weeks, without talking to another human being. I hate receiving compliments; I hate being told I’m talented or people think I’m going to be a movie star. I always feel that it’s forced and fake.” OCD & HANDS PDC analyst Arnold Holtzman has described in his book about Psychodiagnostic Chirology a list of 7 hand characteristics that appear to be associated with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Let’s see if Megan Fox’s hand meet those characteristics: NOTIFICATION: Holtzman described in this book very explicitly: “Each of the (7) features noted below must be in evidence for a diagnosis of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder to be valid.” >> 7 Hand characteristics of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: • 1 Hard & inflexible hands and the palms are never soft, nor dysplastic – No, Megan appears to have flexible hands; • 2 Pronounced knuckles – No, Megan has smooth fingers; • 3 Nail phalanges of ring- + middle finger are spatulate in shape & always heavier than the base phalanges – Yes, but Megan has only spatulate fingernails; but her ‘famous’ thumb appears to be significant here, for obviously the nail phalange of her thumb is ‘heavy’ (it’s the condition named: brachydactyly type d); • 4 Pronounced muscular tonus, including a sharp ‘thumb angle’ (see picture below) – Yes, Megan has the typical thumb angle; • 5 Back of the hands: coarse skin with a masculine texture – No, obviously Megan doesn’t have a masculine texture; • 6 Ring finger is longer than index finger – Yes, Megan’s ring finger is a bit longer than her index finger (though her finger length appears to be within the range of ‘normal’: see picture below); • 7 Palm is square shaped, and never long and narrow – Yes, Megan’s palm appears to be a bit square shaped. Megan Fox appears to have some of the typical hand characteristics that are associated with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but no more that 4 out of 7 of the OCD associated hand characteristics – which is formally not high enough to confirm Megan’s problem.
